Hunting Season underway! Share the Woods!
Below is communication from our partners at the NYS Dec. This also applies to NYS parks where hunting is permitted. Be safe out there my fellow mountain bikers!
“With big game hunting season (Deer and Bear) underway this is just a reminder to stay safe out there while using and maintaining trails. Remember to wear bright orange or pink when going afield to make yourself visible to others. Most of you already have safety vests, please wear them!
All our state forest and wildlife lands are open to hunting this time of the year and remain open for all other recreational activities. All users must share the woods and be aware of their surroundings.
It is currently archery season which runs now until November 20th. Regular firearm season runs from November 21st-December 13th. Then late muzzleloader/archery runs from December 14th-December 22nd AND December 26th to January 1st.
Other hunting that is going on in the fall include grouse, turkey, pheasant, and rabbit.

In 2007, Thom Wright, along with a group of volunteers from NAMBA and WNYMBA, began building what would eventually become Harris Hill Extension, in Harris Hill State Forest, just outside of Gerry, NY.
In 2019, WNYMBA assumed the Volunteer Stewardship Agreement for the mountain bike trails in Chautauqua County and has since assisted Thom in building and maintaining a trail system that is nearly 19 total miles. This video provides a brief history of the trail network and demonstrates how an idea can become a reality with collaboration between the NYSDEC and WNYMBA.

Wednesday Group Ride - Sprague Brook (Early Start)Sep 30, 5:00pmSprague Brook ParkNOTE: Start time is 5:00pm.
Bike Lights are highly encouraged.
The park closes at dusk so we'll have an earlier start. It's a good idea to also have a bike light. There may be a few staggered start times due to everyone's schedule. Coordinate with your fellow riders.
Please use your judgement on weather conditions.
Our weekly Wednesday group ride is for all levels. Try to arrive at least 15 minutes early for orientation and to break into skill-level groups.
Our ride leaders and sweepers are dedicated to providing a supportive and encouraging experience for everyone.
We have a growing number of women who join us each week, especially in our casual/beginner group,
- Meet at main parking lot by bathrooms.
- Post ride meet at the Colden Country Inn.

This is the weekly gathering for riders of all levels.

WNYMBA Fall Ladies Ride & SocialOct 17, 10:30amSprague Brook Park🍂 Crisp fall air, beautiful trails, and great company! Join us on Saturday, October 17th for a Fall Ladies Mountain Bike Ride at Sprague Brook. Whether you're an experienced rider or just getting into the sport, this is a supportive, no-drop ride. All skill levels are completely welcome!
We’ll hit the trails together and keep the good times rolling afterward with a post-ride potluck and hangout at Shelter 2. WNYMBA will be providing beverages to quench your post-ride thirst!
