How does that Bike Swap thing work?
Our annual Bike SWAP and SALE has two ways for the community to come and sell goods
1) BIKE CORRAL:
Beginning at 10:00a on the day of the SWAP you can drop off a bike (s) for our bike corral. Any type of bike; mountain, road, tri, fitness, tandem, unicycle, chopper, youth, child, etc. We sell them all. As a matter of fact most bikes we sell are not mountain bikes. The bike (s) is registered with your name and information including an asking price and a reserve price if you would like the volunteer staff to negotiate on your behalf. The event runs from 12p to 5p. During that time, our volunteers will endeavor to sell your bike (s) for you. Return to the registration desk no later than 5:15p to collect your money or your bike. If your bike has sold there is a 15% consignment fee (max fee $100) that goes to the WNY trail fund. WNYMBA is a 501c3 nonprofit and this donation maybe tax deductible as the law allows.
Bike selling tips.
- Make sure the bike is clean. Nothing fancy just dust it off with a brush or rag
- If the tires hold air, make sure they are pumped up
- Have realistic expectations of the used bike market. Talk to your local bike shop or check on-line forums.
- Youth bikes are in high demand. Many families bring in a bike a child has out grown to sell and have good luck finding a new proper sized bike for their child.
2) FLEA MARKET
Flea market is open market for the community to sell bike related parts and accessories. Maximum 10 items per person. Beginning at 10:00a on the day of the SWAP you can drop off flea market items. Flea market is a fixed price market. You place a price tag on the item. Return to the registration desk no later than 5:15p to collect your money or your items. If your item (s) has sold there is a 15% consignment fee (max fee $100) that goes to the WNY trail fund. WNYMBA is a 501c3 nonprofit and this donation maybe tax deductible as the law allows.
