Board Meeting - Thursday June 18th

WNYMBA Board Member

Late notice for sure, but your WNYMBA Executive and Advisory Board will be hard at work at the Craft Tap House in E. Aurora http://www.crafttaphouse.com/on Thursday night, June 18th at 7:00 PM.

All members and interested parties are welcome to attend, but be pre-warned … it’ll be boring. This one will not be a social meeting. Board members will be discussing exciting stuff like grant applications for trail building and will be assigning specific jobs to expedite a specific grant application.

It's Official, the Black Trail is open!

WNYMBA President James Allen officially cuts the ribbon on E-ville's newest trail the "Black Trail". Another great trail for all human powered activity brought to you by WNYMBA. The organization whose mothers taught them to always share. Thanks to everyone who contributed over the last 2 years to make this a trail reality. Get out and use it!

Cops On Bikes

CheektowagaPolice 4 KioskQuick! What’s the weirdest thing your riding partner ever brought along on a ride? … pizza? … a tutu?... mismatched socks? … a trail dog? … see-through shorts?

How about a gun, handcuffs, mace and a bulletproof vest? Better yet, how about 8 SETS of guns, handcuffs, mace and bulletproof vests all on the trail at one time?

Over the winter, Lt. Brian Gould of the Cheektowaga Police Department contacted WNYMBA with an unusual request. Brian is charged with the responsibility for Cheektowaga’s Police Bike Patrol and had the idea to change up their annual refresher training day with some real off-road mountain bike riding. Not knowing what the reaction would be within his group, Brian’s first request was for one day of WNYMBA involvement. He definitely underestimated the resilience of his own guys though - the idea proved to be so popular that a second ride day had to be arranged and eventually, a third.

On May 19th Todd Fiore and Jerry Barbour escorted the first five cops through the best trails

WNYMBA to Attend IMBA Mid Atlantic Summit

PT Logo Horizontal orange1

WNYMBA will be represented in the 2015 Mid Atlantic Summit at Slatyfork, WV this coming weekend.  I (Jon Sundquist) will be attending and hearing the latest from IMBA and more importantly, voicing our concerns about getting more trails, getting funding, and any and all other matters.  If anyone is interested in coming along at this late date, contact me.  Or if you want me to bring any info to the table for the meeting, also contact me.

The riding should be pretty good as well!

A shout out to Ellicottville Brewing Company

highres 4368458441It takes a lot of tools to build and maintain trail.  And that includes a nice cool beverage after working.

EBC, the folks that bring us all Eagle Trail IPA, obviously are big supporters of our trail work, as they like to ride, too.

For our Allegany trail work weekend just past, Dan the brewmaster donated a case of EBC's new 2 Brothers Session IPA for our relaxing enjoyment.

We'd like to thank EBC and look forward to working with the on more and bigger projects in the future.

Our insurance company has "strongly suggested" that we tell you that Mountain Biking can be dangerous. If you're visiting this site it's very likely that you're already aware that if you insist on having a good time by riding your mountain bike, eventually you will almost certainly fall down and collect any number of boo-boos, dings and injuries, serious or otherwise, but we have to tell you anyway.

Mountain Biking is a potentially hazardous activity carrying a significant risk of bodily injury and even death. Mountain biking should only be undertaken if you have a complete awareness of these risks. You can reduce the level of risk by wearing a helmet and by riding within your own skill level.
