January 2017 Meeting On **THURSDAY** January 19

The First Meeting of 2017!

Yes, we usually meet on a Wednesday, but this time it's a Thursday.  Same as a Wednesday, but a day later.

This is the traditional "elect your board members and officers" meeting, plus the chance to set the agenda for whole 2017 season.  We really would like you to make it and make your voice heard.

It will be at our usual winter time meeting place at Santora's Pizza on Millersport near UB.  More details over at the Meetup.

Board meeting Tuesday, Nov. 15

Board meeting 0081Board meetings are where lots of boring stuff happens.  We try to work out boring details about running the club, in order to present to the general membership during our regular meetings.  They aren't a lot of fun, but since WNYMBA isn't a secret organization, any members can come to if they are looking for a snoozefest.  OUr next one is going to be Tuesday Nov. 15 to talk about ebikes (Cattaraugus County contacted us about them), update on membership drive, outer harbor, darien lake, and HV next steps, tool inventory, website, and 2017 goals.  This one will be at Hamburg Brewring @ 7:00 on Nov. 15 (Tuesday) (WNYMBA isn't buying, just in case you wondered).  If you like the nuts and bolts of running a nonprofit, see you there!

Outer Harbor MTB Trail Moves Forward with Selection of Design Firm

outerharborAs was reported last fall, the ECHDC had scrapped the original plan for large development on the outer harbor in favor of faster, lighter, cheaper alternatives.  Thanks to ECHDC's soliciting and listening to ideas from the public, including a proposal from WNYMBA, the revised master plan (http://eriecanalharbor.com/outer-harbor/PDF/Outer_Harbor_Blueprint.pdf) included an MTB park on portions of the outer harbor land.

Not much has happened publicly over the last year since the revised plan was released, as the ECHDC was working on procuring a design firm for the park and the other 5 or  improvements to be made under the new 2015 plan.  Last week, ECHDC announced the selection of Trowbridge as the design firm, and reaffirmed the MTB course to be included in the design (http://news.wbfo.org/post/mountain-bike-course-approved-buffalos-outer-harbor).  WNYMBA will remain in communication with ECHDC as this exciting new development unfolds.

April 2016 meeting this Wednesday (4/20)

Meeting clip artFirst "real" meeting of the year this Wednesday.  The trails are dry, so we'll all be our riding first at Sprague Brook, then head over to Colden Inn for some fun, food, beverages, and all the latest WNYMBA happenings.  Hope to see you there!

"Take the Black Trail" Beer event - Was that fun or what?

IMAG05771That was about as much fun as you can have on a Wednesday night, outside of riding season (I'll still take a couple of loops at the Brook followed by beverages at the Inn).

Thanks go out to Resurgence Brewing for hosting a great event as well as our many sponsors providing fund-raising gift baskets.  I am sure I'll forget a few, but thanks go out to 42 North, Campus Wheel Works, Tom's Pro Bike, Chainring Rhythm, Aurora Brew Works (and next door neighbor Andrew's Barber Parlor), Bike-n-Bean, and... who am I fogetting.

In the meantime check out this video sampling the festivities:

Our insurance company has "strongly suggested" that we tell you that Mountain Biking can be dangerous. If you're visiting this site it's very likely that you're already aware that if you insist on having a good time by riding your mountain bike, eventually you will almost certainly fall down and collect any number of boo-boos, dings and injuries, serious or otherwise, but we have to tell you anyway.

Mountain Biking is a potentially hazardous activity carrying a significant risk of bodily injury and even death. Mountain biking should only be undertaken if you have a complete awareness of these risks. You can reduce the level of risk by wearing a helmet and by riding within your own skill level.
