  • Cattaraugus State Forest draft Management Plan out for comment Jon Sundquist February 24, 2015

The long-awaited draft unit management plan for the Cattaraugus State Forests is out for comment.  Note, so far, this UMP does not include recommendations for trails, but in talking with DEC, they said they would take that input during the comment phase.  WNYMBA has big plans for lots of new trails in the Catt. Co. state forests, so we will be sure to comment.  However, you are welcome to comment as well.

  • Wed. Feb. 18th - SOCIAL NIGHT - No Meeting/No Agenda Tallboy January 31, 2015

We're skipping our regular meeting format in February for a night of serious socializing at "Handlebar", Buffalo's only bicycle-themed pub, http://handlebarpub.com/ . This recently-opened downtown bar at 149 Swan St. features cool bicycle stuff on the walls, tables made with old bike parts, "unicycle" bar stools ... and best of all, they actually LIKE bicycle people! WNYMBA members, non-members, spouses, significant others, it doesn't matter - everyone is welcome. Early birds will be able to take advantage of some free appetizers, courtesy of owner Sarah Schneider and her staff. Your first beverage will be discounted and you'll be able to select the rest of your food and drink from their regular menu. "Handlebar" is located immediately at the foot of the I-190 Elm St. ramp. Look to your right at the first traffic light (Swan St.) - the pub is right there in the first building. You'll find a Google Maps/Directions window on the pub's website and there's plenty of parking in the lots...

  • Election Results Are In! Tallboy January 23, 2015

The air at Santora's Restaurant wasn't exactly filled with mystery and intrigue on Wednesday January 21st. It could more accurately be described as being filled with the aromas of pizza and beer, but we still got it done folks ... we elected new Executive and Advisory Boards. Thanks to all club members who came out for the meeting and thanks to all who cast their ballots. WNYMBA's elected officials for 2015 are: President - Jim Allen Vice-President - Jon Sundquist Treasurer - Joe Crumlish Secretary - Gerry Barbour Advisory Board - Ben Clauss, Melissa Melnik, Paul Marko, Thom Wright To Phil DeFranco, Todd Fiore and Mike Moscato, all three of whom were members of the outgoing 2014 Boards and clever enough either not to stand for re-election, or to somehow discourage votes from heading their way, "THANKS" for your past service. Don't forget though, no free pass on trail work once the snow's gone!

Our insurance company has "strongly suggested" that we tell you that Mountain Biking can be dangerous. If you're visiting this site it's very likely that you're already aware that if you insist on having a good time by riding your mountain bike, eventually you will almost certainly fall down and collect any number of boo-boos, dings and injuries, serious or otherwise, but we have to tell you anyway.

Mountain Biking is a potentially hazardous activity carrying a significant risk of bodily injury and even death. Mountain biking should only be undertaken if you have a complete awareness of these risks. You can reduce the level of risk by wearing a helmet and by riding within your own skill level.
